Learning English for a local child in a place like Hong Kong is a daunting task. The population is 98% Chinese and Cantonese is the day to day language. English is almost a foreign language, even though it is an official one! So how then can parents of children help their children learn English through this most valuable of all resources: reading?

Talking to your baby to aid him picking up words. Point to things around you and tell him what they are and what they do when you are together. Read to your baby every single day from the age of about six months.

Playing and reading together will make for fun and interesting activities and will help your baby learn English easily.
