About the International Baccalaureate Program

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) is a program for students aged 16 to 19 and is internationally recognized for admission by renowned universities such as Oxford and Cambridge Universities (Oxbridge) in England and Ivy league universities in the United States. It is growing popular in Hong Kong schools who are using this as a replacement for A-Levels.

Unlike the traditional A-Levels where students usually opt for arts subjects (English, History, etc) or science subjects (Maths, Chemistry, Physics) the IB Diploma course combines both arts, languages and science into one program. It also enables students to have more freedom to choose the university course at a later stage in their school life. Moreover, the IB Program awards a single IB Diploma with a single grade (in points) rather than each subject being graded separately.

Two key components of the IB Diploma Course are the Theory of Knowledge Paper and the Extended Essay. Both are compulsory for obtaining the full IB Diploma. The TOK requires candidates to write an essay of 1200 to 1600 on a title chosen from a list given the IB board as well as an English presentation on a topic of the candidate's own choice. The Extended Essay requires you to write a 4,000 plus words research style essay on an approved topic within the field of the IB program.

Methods

This is a one-to-one course with an expert native English IB expert teacher to help support you in various areas related to language:

TOK: Theory of Knowledge Presentation & Essay (1200-1600 words)
EE: Extended Essay (400 words)
EL: English Literature (language A)
Oral English

The IB course lasts a minimum of ten hours and tutor will give help, feedback, tips and guidance on the specific areas that you want to improve most in order for you to get maximum progress.

Materials

The course uses HKEnglish's professional customized teaching materials as well as text books provided free for use within the classroom. You are encouraged to bring in your own essays for use discussion and writing skills analysis within the course. We can help proofread your essay writing as well.

Venue

The IB COURSE is held at our conveniently located office in Central Hong Kong just above the MTR (Exits A/B) and a few minutes walk away from major buildings such as the International Finance Centre (IFC), Exchange Square, The Landmark HK and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel (Hong Kong).
